baptisms and volunteer celebration…what a day!

Do you ever have one of those Sundays when you remember that being part of a community is a big deal? That was yesterday for me.

I was in the second service and got to see one student and two adults be baptized. Absolutely awesome! Hearing the stories of the three folks who got baptized was great. Apparently the stories of those baptized at the 9:30 service were equally encouraging. I love that at PCC people clap and cheer when someone is baptized, or “washed” as Ray has been teaching. Frankly, I can’t think of too many things that are more worth getting excited about than when people make that kind of public declaration of their faith in and dedication to Jesus.

Last night was the volunteer celebration. The 200 folks who showed up were greeted by a live jazz trio in the lobby and the staff decked out in Hawaiian shirts serving punch and appetizers. If you liked the punch you can ask (pastor) Brian and (pastor) Chuck for their secret punch recipe. After a while we went into the auditorium. (Pastor) Ray and (pastor) Glenn thanked everyone for their ongoing love and service to the community. Oh yeah… we also saw a video put together by Larry of PCC people thanking volunteers for all they do. Great video…thanks Larry! We were led in worship by the staff band and then went to the gym for self-serve ice cream sundaes.

It was a great night. I hope that our volunteers got even a small glimpse of how significant what they do is. There’s is simply no way PCC could be what it is without each person who gives their time to serve. Thanks!
