I meant to mention this earlier in the week, but better late than never I suppose. Along with other staff and volunteers I got to the PCC building pretty early on Sunday to help with set-up for our outdoor service. Since we’d never done this type of thing before we wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to get everything ready for the first service.

One of the biggest tasks was to set up a couple hundred chairs in front of the building. Given that so many PCC people were still cleaning up from the storm, we hadn’t asked for extra help to set-up. I’ll admit that as I was walking towards the building early on Sunday I wasn’t super excited about the prospect of a few of us hauling and setting up all those chairs.
As it turns out, I probably only carried a dozen chairs.
As a few staff folks started moving chairs, a bunch of folks from PCC’s Manna Ministry (people who are currently homeless or in transitional living situations) showed up asking to help. Because these folks don’t have anywhere to be after they have to leave the shelter, many of them arrive at PCC kind of early on Sunday mornings. Understand, they’re generally not showing up for any other reason than this is their church. In less than a half hour, with their help, we had all the chairs set up!
At the end of the second service, along with other PCC people, our Manna folks helped clean everything up so that by 12:30 you wouldn’t have known there had just been hundreds of people at 2 outdoor services. Amazing.
So, thanks to everyone who helped make the services last Sunday possible. Thanks especially to those from the Manna Ministry. I’m really not sure how we would have done it without you.
