You can read part one of this interview with Ken Bylsma here.
What is Costa Rica like?
It is Spanish speaking. 83% of the people are Catholic and going to church is a big thing… you will find the churches full on Sundays. The evangelical church is growing and many young people are coming to faith in Jesus Christ. Costa Rica is very American friendly. The dollar can be used just about everywhere. Construction is booming. Just about everyone has a cell phone. The infrastructure is the best of all Latin America countries.
What are the specific things that you have done on your trips to Costa Rica?
My trips to Costa Rica started out helping to do some concrete projects on the International Teams campus. After two trips I was asked to consider helping run teams that came for short mission trips. So 3 or 4 times a year I go to help “push” groups with different projects. These could be painting, new construction, concrete pouring, tile work, plumbing etc.
What are a couple of things that have impacted your Faith during these trips?
The first major impact happened just 3 days after first arriving in Costa Rica. I was told of the One on One disciple program with young people. Over 100 are taught each week on the life of Christ. Some have gone on to be youth pastors and some are even overseas as missionaries.
Secondly, I come to realize that God can use us anywhere if we are willing to be available to Him.
Thirdly… to have my “spiritual” eyes opened to what God is doing in other parts of the World. HE IS AT WORK!!!
The final part of this interview will post on Friday.
