Another email update from the Philippines team came in last evening.
Our first night in Manila we stayed at the South Baptist Guest House in the heart of the city of Manila. This city does not sleep. I guess perhaps the climate keeps them from building sound proof buildings. I think we who sleep lighter felt that we would sleep just the same if we had our beds on the sidewalk. Jet lag and time differences have our bodies confused, so it was perfectly normal for my body to be wide awake at 2 a.m. (12 pm CDT). At 6:30 am we were up and talking about the loud “pop” we heard at at 2:00am and the arguing that ensued. I later heard a lady singing at the top of her lungs as she was walking down the street. All kinds of traffic all night long as well….beep, beep, beep, all night long!
Naturally, our first inclination is “Why are these people up?!” And more importantly, why are they keeping us up? We’re tired! But I remembered what I’d been telling those at home, “If you’re up in the middle of the night, pray for us!” So my thoughts turned to praying for those at home, in the middle of their days. As I was praying God reminded me of his love for all people- those who argue in the middle of the night, and those who keep others awake. AND our call is to love them too!
It’s almost 11:00 am and we’re putting together goody bags for the retreats and listening to the music we’ll be using in worship tomorrow. Pray that we may remember God’s heart for all people as we go though today. Also pray that we can bless the Henderson family as we learn about their ministry here today. Happy Valentines day- may we remember to show love to all today.
In Him,
Jeanne (on behalf of the team)
