the good stuff is in the comments

A few days ago I posted lament: wartime | rejoice: springtime. A couple of folks have taken the post and run with it in the comment thread. I won’t even try to summarize it here, but if you get a few moments check out how these guys are thinking through some big issues.

  1. I think we just need to have a liveblog. But not like where someone sits at a conference and types up what’s happening live.

But instead, like a public forum, where we have a round-table discussion of these things.

That would be awesome. And I wouldn’t write so much. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. If you think it’s a good idea, a couple topics:

What do you think of “denominations”? Do they help or hinder the church (in the living-entity, not-a-building sense)? (Of course, they do both, but why?)

What should the church’s response be to social crisis? (Things like civil rights, government bureaucracy, homelessness, things like that)

Things like Brian and I are discussing, like “When to Serve?”

Anyway, I’m up for anything from personal ranting to riotous vitriolic discussion, if the discussion merits it… I love a good debate. ๐Ÿ™‚ So, what do you think? (as a person, not a P-view “elite”)

  3. I agree that some “e-place” to have these kind of roundtables would be great! I think a discussion board format would be a more suitable forum for this kind of thing than a blog. I wonder if there is anyone who would be able to get it up and running and then people to moderate it?

  4. I’d do it if I found a site that would allow PHP (and provide the toolset itself) and was free. ๐Ÿ™‚

I couldn’t monitor it 24-7, but I’d get at least a good half-hour in a day, most likely to moderate it.

I’m all about that kind of thing. Just no funds for hosting or the forum software…
