easter from different angles: 5

I’m really enjoying posting these Easter reflections from different friends. Today’s thoughts come from Sherri Owens. I met Sherri when we were students at Montreat College. She used to come around Howerton Hall and join a few regulars to kick the hacky-sack around. Yes, hacky-sack. Yes, I was good. Sherri was good too. Here’s her take on the question, “Why does Easter matter to you?”

As I sit here in the International House of Prayer about to take communion I am moved to tears thinking of what Easter means to me. Prior to this moment Easter hasn’t really been as moving as it probably should have been. Simply thoughts of candy and bunnies, and Easter church services feeling cheesy waving around that leaf thingy.

But now I am moved deeply with many different thoughts and feelings.

New beginnings, the end of the old, his body broken for me, his blood shed for me, hope among a trial so large you can’t imagine making it through, death to my way of doing things and Life to His Way, sadness, Joy, example of Humility, Power, Self Control, His Trust for the Father, and LOVE.
