birthday gifts

My family knows me very well. For my birthday I was given gift certificates for Amazon.com. On Saturday I used some of the money to order the following…

Maggie also gave me Jens Leckman, Night Falls over Kortedala and the in-laws put The New Conspirators by Tom Sine in the mail.

And then to top it off, Maggie took me by the Map Room on the way to see a Chicago Fire game.

How sweet is that?

  1. Happy Birthday, David! I was at your birthday party in 1982 in Puerto Ayacucho!

Glad you got to shop for things you love for your birthday. Just an idea for an independent thinking guy…ask your friends and relatives for gift certificates to independent book and record stores. They are disappearing. 🙂

    Blessings,
    Sue

  2. Ah, I’ve been called out by the owner of an independent bookstore. I consider that an honor. 🙂

My indie bookstore of choice before moving was The Bookstore in downtown Glen Ellyn. It’s a small shop but I usually walked out with something interesting.

When I’m in Portland in a couple of weeks I’ll be paying homage to the mothership of independent bookstores, Powell’s Books.

For music, check out Paste Magazine’s guide to the best indie record shops in the country (don’t think the article is online yet).

And in a final attempt to atone for my Amazon.com sins, if you’re ever in Yakima, WA, be sure to stop by Sue’s bookstore, Inklings Bookshop. Though I’ve not been myself, I have it on good authority that it’s the perfect place to loose yourself for a few hours.

  3. I thought you already had In Rainbows?

  4. Yeah Larry, I did. I paid for the download and then lost it when I switched laptops. Am missing it enough to pay for the cd.
