thanks a lot rod!

Any other Illinoisans feeling a bit sheepish about our state over the past two days?  Since the word of Rod Blagojevich’s indiscretions hit the news yesterday I’ve received messages from my uncle (in Iowa) and dad (in California), both poking fun of our state’s renewed reputation for political hi-jinks.  Thanks a lot Rod!

Maggie and I leave for her (other) sister’s wedding in North Carolina tomorrow.  At first I thought this would be a nice escape from the shame Governor B has brought on, but now I realize the trip will be a chance for more teasing from our non-Illinois family.

Edward Gilbreath has a much kinder and more nuanced reaction on his blog to this nonsense.

    It is good table conversation. I actually ran into the Rod downtown. He waved at me. I just keep picturing that smile, sincere and friendly.

    a weak moment, edgar? surely you jest. the man had an enemy list longer than j. edgar hoover’s. you just don’t survive in illinois politics by making enemies with your own party and the other party.
