favorite bus stop sign

This sign is attached to a post next to the bus stop near our apartment so I’ve had some time to appreciate it over the past few months.

I wonder how a person who doesn’t speak English interprets this sign.  Are the rats chasing the man and his dog?  Maybe the man is out for a stroll with his dog and pet rats.

  1. Not to mention, those rats are HUGE!!! You stack six and you’re talking the same size as the guy! Rodents of unusual size!

    ROUSes!

I think it’s fairly obvious to any left-to-right reading and writing culture who don’t speak english, that this sign means, “Rat man pokes dog with sticks.”

  3. Jeremy – that is pretty funny.

  4. Why is the man not running or turning his dog on the rats? HA
Iilove signs. My blog has one I saw in a local Walgreens. On a door in the store was a sign that said, “No entry or exit.”
    Then why have a door????

  6. Not to be crude, but if the picture is supposed to explain the words, then shouldn’t the rats be around a pile of dog waste instead of chasing the man and his dog? 🙂

  7. They’re just waiting patiently, Jeff. Not to mention the lightning bolt that’s giving them pause… 🙂

  8. The ordianance reads as follows: 7-12-420 Removal of excrement. Any person found to have been in violation of this section shall be fined not less than $50.00 nor more than $500.00 for each offense.

Can you Chicagoans tell me the difference between a $50 pile and a $500 pile? Is it the neighborhood?

  9. I showed the sign to my 8 year old daughter and covered the words. She said it means, “No dogs allowed when toy dinosaurs are lying around.” I showed it to my 10 year old son and he said, “Clean up your dog’s poop.”
It concerns me that my son got it.
