lollapalooza advice please

lollapalooza_2009Thanks to a very generous friend, I will be attending Lollapalooza on Friday and Saturday.  If you don’t know, Lollapalooza is a giant music festival that originally toured the country but has recently been reincarnated as a Chicago summer tradition, taking over Grant Park for three days (I can’t make it on Sunday).

This will be my first experience at a festival this big, so I have two questions for those in the know.

  1. What tips and tricks should I know that will make these two days as enjoyable as possible? You should know that the weather on both days is supposed to be in the 90’s and humid, August in Chicago kind of weather.
  2. What bands should I see? Life’s been too busy for me to spend much time making a plan of who I want to see.  Not to mention that every time I look at the possibilities I get overwhelmed.  It would be easy and fun to see a bunch of bands I know and like, but this would be a good chance to experience some new music.

One last question: Anyone else going to be in Grant Park this weekend?

Hey, congrats on the tickets score.

    everything is very, very expensive.

bring lots of money, even for water.

I’m headlining two nights. Look for me on the main stage.

Oh, I disguise myself but I’m lead sinner, oops, make that singer for Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys

  2. I highly, highly recommend freezing a couple of big bottles of water the night before. They’ll be very refreshing in the hot weather even though they’ll melt in an hour or so. (1 liter sealed water bottles are allowed on the grounds.)

Also, bring a blanket and/or tarp. You’ll probably want to rest once in a while and not have to sit on spilled beer and cigarette butts.

Speaking of gross things, hand sanitizer might be a good idea if you plan on touching your food before ingesting it.

Musicwise, go see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Dunno if it’s your style of music, but they put on quite a show – Josh and I saw them at Lolla two years ago and loved them. I think they’re a very worthy replacement for the Beasties.

Finally, if you’re driving, the parking lot adjacent to our building is only $2 all day on weekends and a 20-25 minute walk to Lollapalooza. Don’t tell too many people though 😀

  3. You fortunate son. You can go from the Fleet Foxes right to check out Thievery Corporation right to experience Depeche Mode – all on Friday (today). Nice.

Too bad Sunday doesn’t fit in – Jane’s Addiction and Lou Reed. Does it get any better?
