who are they?

Kudos to those who guessed last week’s obscure person from the Scriptures: Esther. And that doesn’t count those of you who right clicked the photo and found the answer that way… a mistake I don’t mean to repeat. Such sneaky people!

Given the relative obscurity of the people in this coming Sunday’s sermon I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that this is the best I could do…

?

Not very helpful, so here’s a couple of hints:

  • It’s two people, a man and woman.
  • Most of what we know about them comes from the New Testament Book of Acts, though the Apostle Paul refers to them in three of his letters.

Any guesses?

  1. Priscilla and Aquila?

  2. Sonny and Cher? Captain and Tenille? Ike and Tina? Elvis and Priscilla? Julia Child and her un-named husband?

  3. let’s just say that if i were a betting man i’d be listening to marilyn and not steve.

  4. I’m seconding Julia Child and the un-named husband… I think, if I remember my art-school teaching correctly, that they posed for quite a few “antiquity-style” artworks. This was back in the 70s though, and things were much crazier then… 🙂

  5. Okay, folks. Julia Child’s husband, Paul, deserves a better description. He reportedly “introduced his wife to fine cuisine.” It was because of his job as an OSS (precursor to the CIA, I think) cartographer that they moved to Paris, where Julia decided, sort of on a whim, to study at Le Cordon Bleu (the most famous culinary school in the world). Some of her cookbooks feature Paul’s illustrations and photography. He also designed her kitchen, which was donated to the Smithsonian after her death. (I have seen it, and it is very interesting.)

  7. Good one, Melissa. But can Paul and Julia cook Ratatouille – like that mouse (or was he a rat?) in the movie? That was in Paris too – you know. [My memory was refreshed by the recent movie].
