I think I just joined the coolest car club ever. Seriously.
The Junky Car Club is a car club whose members are learning to live with less so we can give more. We’re a bunch of happy drivers that are politely rebelling against consumerism by driving junky cars. We encourage our members to use their dough to support social justice causes instead of making fat car payments. Junky Car Club members sponsor kids who live in poverty through Compassion International and help other great organizations. We believe in environmental stewardship and hanging onto things a little longer.
This is so sweet. My 1998 Corolla with a peeling bumper just went up a few notches since it helped me get into the club. Actually, I think I am a “Chrome Member” according to the criteria:

2. Your vehicle is 10 years old or older and MAY have trouble starting on cold mornings, have a funky smell inside, and have an annoying hum coming from the radio.

4. You care about the issues of poverty and social justice and want to bring awareness to these important issues.
All I need to attain Elite Lemon Membership is point #2. Hey, now I’ve got something to work towards! And just in case you doubt the legitimacy of my membership into this exclusive club, here’s my photo evidence. Beautiful. The car that is.
I love the idea of being content with enough. There a lots of times when I want a new car… I’ve coveted the Mini Cooper more than a few times. But the reality is that by driving an older car, I don’t have to make payments. My 98 Toyota Corolla is more than enough for me.
Anyone else want to join the club? It takes about one minute… and I think there may be a bumper sticker for members. Just click here and you are on your way.
