Friends,
The word “volunteer” is not technically a biblical term. It actually comes from the Latin voluntarius meaning “of one’s free will.” Yet, clearly the word expresses the very biblical concept of giving to others. By definition, a volunteer is someone who freely serves in a community for the benefit of that community.
Every week, you along with a few hundred other men, women and student, serve in and through the ministries of Parkview. Your faithfulness makes a huge difference in the Kingdom of God. I am humbled by the sacrifice so many of our people make for the sake of others in our community [in and outside the church].
Because I [along with our staff and leaders] care about those who faithfully serve, together we’ve been praying, brainstorming and discussing ways we all can help ensure Parkview maintains and cultivates a healthy, encouraging, invigorating and fulfilling volunteer culture. We have some definite ideas on how we can do that but are looking for input from our people as well.
All this to say, please don’t miss our Everyday Heroes meeting on Saturday, October 13, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. I know Saturday mornings are busy for many of us – myself included – but I believe these three hours represent a very positive investment toward our future.
Volunteers, Servants, Heroes – whatever title you want to use is fine with me. The point is, those of you who give of yourselves in service to others are following in the footsteps of Jesus and making an impact that carries eternal ramifications.
Thank you so much. See you Saturday. By the way, there will be food, and childcare is available.
Ray
