the best stuff is in the comments

Today the plan was to post a review of the last three chapters of The Culturally Savvy Christian. I’m going to hold off on that for a few days because there have been some GREAT comments left on the blog this week that you shouldn’t miss. Here are a few highlights, but make sure to go read the full comments. There are some some sharp folks reading this blog!

An open letter to pcc’s old(er) married folks got a lot of traffic this week. Larry was first with a comment,

I gotta put my hand in with Dave on this one! As a five-year-old married couple, I definitely want to see some honest people that have been married for a long time.

Mary Mac (44 years of marriage!) followed,

We still argue and bicker but even then it’s with laughter and humor. We don’t see “eye to eye” all the time and have our own strong opinions but as the years go by our bickering is over small stuff. In all the important values and beliefs we’re one.

And on Thursday Jeanne wrote,

We know that our marriage is where it is today because we have community around us to support and challenge us, and this community had to be intentional.

Ray’s random thoughts: membership also got a lot of traffic, along with two very interesting comments. Larry asks the question,

Membership seems to me, to be an antiquated concept. I fully agree in theory, and totally with the ideas outlined above. But why have the title, period, when you can simply have the lifestyle and the attitude, and the commitment?

Julie follows the same train of thought,

I just wonder what it really represents or ‘means’ to a typical church participant though. It also isn’t something I see modeled in Scripture so I guess I never felt the passion to promote church membership.

I could keep going, but this is getting kind of long. Take a look at the two insightful comments by Mike and Larry on a vision of students today. I’m also hoping someone will weigh in on Tuesday’s post, Ten Ways to be the Peope of God in Suburbia.

Thanks for reading, and keep the comments coming.
