street art

Yesterday evening Maggie and I met for a quick happy hour at Streetside Cafe. She rode her bike from the Kedzie Metra stop after taking the train from Wheaton and I rode down from the Starbucks on California where I’d been doing some sermon work.

When we walked out of Streetside to unlock our bikes for the ride home I saw this small painting attached to a street sign. It appears the artist had simply attached their painting (which had been painted on a small piece of plywood) to the sign pole with a couple of bolts.

Any Chicago folks seen anything like this anywhere else? And since I’m not art-savvy, does anyone know if this is an original work or a copy/interpretation of a well known artist?

I like the idea of placing art in public places. What if each bus stop sign had a few pieces of art attached to it?

  1. Some would say you are advocating graffiti or at least destruction of civic property. 🙂 Yet even then, you’d have many agreeing with you. (like me)

  2. Advocating is such a strong word Larry. How about “enhancing”?

  3. I’ll say I advocate it when it’s work that took effort to create. If it’s just someone spraying their tag up there? Not good. But stuff like Banksy? Brilliant.
