conflicting emotions

At the end of July a woman in our neighborhood was attacked with sulfuric acid and robbed. It was an ugly thing to do and the woman remains in the hospital under sedation. While the incident seemed pretty random, it still introduced me to an unaccustomed element of fear.

Yesterday morning I read that the police had the primary suspect in custody which made me feel quite a bit better.

After learning that the suspect is a 16 year old girl I no longer feel better, just really sad.

  1. Wow, that’s really sad. I mean, good on the police, as you say, for finding her assailant… but still…

Funny though (well, interesting, not “ha-ha”) that a mugging with a gun (even a non-fatal shooting) seems less scary than this. I guess it’s simply because it’s the sort of thing you could ABSOLUTELY never expect…

the truth is that we are here on earth for an undetermined (well, God knows, but we don’t) time frame… and we gotta use that time for the best. I’m finding myself praying for situations to share Christ more frequently, due to illnesses in the family, things like that. It’s sad that these instances occur, yet, even these things God can use to further his kingdom, ya know? God is always at work, bringing people to his kingdom and sharing his love with people, at all times, even the worst of them. And at least, we should take comfort in that. He is in control, always.

  2. Hi David,

That is bad news. Unfortunately the city is unforgiving. The scary part for me is knowing someone had sulfuric acid around and threw it at somebody. You hear people getting shot. No biggie. But sulfuric acid? that is bad.. “conflicting emotions” bad.

May God bless you and keep you safe.
