Apparently we live in the most stressful city in America. Who knew? According to the Chicago Sun-Times,
Using a formula that includes unemployment, pollution and congestion, Forbes magazine has ranked us as America’s most stressful city.
But not everyone buys the Forbes analysis.
Jonathan C. Smith, founder of the Roosevelt University Stress Institute, called the Forbes formula “pseudo-science. It’s based on a discounted theory that change equals stress, which was popular in the ’60s but is now considered ancient,” said Smith.
Was anyone else unaware of the existence of a “stress institute”? What does it mean that there is such a thing? I’ve lived in a few different places and thus far Chicago doesn’t seem any more stressful than the rest. Frankly, I’ve found that city life has been less stressful than my previous suburban existence. Of course, there are plenty of areas of this city that I imagine are much more stress-inducing than our relatively placid neighborhood in Logan Square.
How about it Chicago folks? Does this city stress you out?
